6 Styling Tricks To Take From Prada’s Powerful-Yet-Practical AW20 Show
Fashion Alliance 2020/02/27 Pageviews:93

For autumn/winter 2020, Miuccia Prada built on the proposition that “the person should be more important than the clothes”, with a collection of keep-forever pieces with zany Prada twists. The edit was chock full of staples that are likely already in our wardrobes – including grey blazers, pencil skirts, Mary Janes, brogues and ladylike bags – but they were injected with personality – via tassels, sprightly colour pairings, more tassels! These nuanced takes on classics can, accordingly, be mined for inspiration. Go forth, and pep up your own pieces à la Prada AW20 now.

Wellington boots and workwear are no longer mutually exclusive

Prada’s new longer-line lug-soled boots look Storm Dennis-appropriate. But the Prada woman isn’t about to go splashing in puddles anytime soon: she’s taking her wellies to work. The sweet-but-not-saccharine coloured stompers undercut squishy belted blazers and leather pencil skirts.

Tassels belong on grey regulation blazers

Boardroom-to-bar? Desk-to-dancefloor? Prada trumped all the out-of-hours office clichés by stitching shimmering tassels onto boxy blazers. “I wanted to use fringe as a symbol of what is considered feminine,” Mrs Prada told British Vogue. The swishing sound is ever so pleasing, too.

Shirt and tie colour combinations just got sassy

From sky blue and tomato red, to dusty pink and mustard yellow, Prada’s shirt and tie combinations mean business for autumn/winter 2020. “The silhouettes [are] strong silhouettes,” explained Prada of putting female empowerment before whimsy.  Don’t you dare think about undoing a top button.

Ditto tights in lurid colour ways

Thirty deniers are out, and look-at-me tights are in. All the better for drawing attention to those killer Mary Janes and delectable patent pumps.

Lizzo is about to get a Prada tiny bag habit

Minuscule bags came strung on tasselled chains for on-the-go ease. Stock with all manner of tiny snacks (500 smints, perhaps?) and breeze in to autumn/winter 2020.

Amp up your Alice bands

The street-style set’s favourite satin and nylon headbands have been souped up in time for Christmas party season. Think gold iterations so reflective you can check your lipstick application in them, and silver bands with gobstopper-size baubles stuck on in perfect symmetry.
