5 Key Trend Takeaways From Copenhagen Fashion Week Autumn 2020
Fashion Alliance 2020/02/10 Pageviews:103

Outside of New York, London, Milan and Paris, Copenhagen Fashion Week always helps us dictate what models, It-girls and influencers will be wearing this season (outside of scrolling through the cooler corners of Instagram, of course).

But while Copenhagen's street-style has become synonymous with colour, patterns and seasonal prints over the years, part of the colourful exuberance was replaced by a sense of timely minimalism at spring'20.

At the beginning of Feburary, with the industry placing an emphasis on lasting fashion value instead of buying into quick-fire trends, it's only natural that fashion week attendees are starting to favour wearability over trendiness, as well as re-purposing timeless looks.

Comfort takes precedence, too, and in 2020, the 'oversized' trend appears to be going nowhere fast. Call it 'the Billie Eilish effect', perhaps.

Scroll down for five of the key takaway street-style trends we noticed during Copenhagen Fashion Week spring '20.

1. Pastels are out, and neutrals are in

With labels like Bottega Veneta and Celine placing an emphasis on the importance of monochromatic wardrobe classics, the Scandi It-girls are doing things their own way, and exclusively brown, khaki and black outfits took centre stage this season.

1. Pastels are out, and neutrals are in

In the past, the street style offerings at Copenhagen Fashion Week have been known to feature plenty of soft, pastel hues, but the attendees at autumn '20 proved neutrals are always on-trendand have a much longer shelf life in your wardrobe.

2. The more oversized, the better

It goes without saying that oversized clothing and cold-weather dressing go hand-in-hand, but looking at the recent street style in Copenhagen, we were hard-pressed to find many attendees who didn't incorporate some kind of bagginess into their outfits (whether it be a too-big blazer, or large handbag).

2. The more oversized, the better

Bar a few exceptions, the vast majority of It-girls in attendance at the Copenhagen shows donned baggy coats, trousers and skirts, as well as padded, plush accessories, and hats for every occasion.

3. Don't donate your brightly-coloured garments just yet

Before you sell or donate your brightly-coloured wardrobe accessories in favour of monochromatic styles, you might want to re-assess, and keep a few pieces that pep up your closet for a grey day.

4. That old hat in your wardrobe? It's probably cool now

Of the many accessory trends that experienced a resurgence in the 2010s, one of them was unexpected hats; extending to even drawstring sunhats and baseball caps. Basicallyit's time to upcycle your neglected wardrobe pieces, because we'd bet any money that they're cool now.

The ongoing hat and headpiece resurgence extends to berets, and even headbands, which were already starting to surge in popularity last season (especially the satin Prada ones).

5. There's a new guard of It-handbags (and an emphasis on classic pieces, too)

Recycling old pieces is one of the most important things we can do to protect the planet, and never compromises good style. At Copenhagen, there was a palpable resurgence of vintage accessoriesincluding this early-'00s Dior bag, which is still on-trend today.

Nevertheless, attendees who were spotted with brand-new accessories appeared to steer clear of seasonal fads, gravitating towards pieces that will last forever (including Chanel's new '19' bag).
