Tradition of the Chinese Rat Year dictates that we dress head-to-toe in a brand-new outfit — preferably in the lucky colour red — on the first day of the lunar calendar. In addition to symbolising a fresh start, the audacious red hue is meant to rid us of bad spirits and attract good fortune.
Feeling unprepared? There’s still time for a shopping spree, and many of the top fashion brands are all joining in the celebration with limited Year of the Rat capsule creations to help you begin the lunar calendar on a style high. Scroll down to see our list of 10 favourites we’ve picked out for you.
Creative director Alessandro Michele takes us on a trip to the magical land of Disney with its Year of the Mouse collection, featuring none other than Walt Disney’s True Original: Mickey Mouse.
1.Gucci
The collection embraces a playful, vintage spirit that pays tribute to the timeless Disney star through a range of ready-to-wear and accessories from shoes, bags to small leather goods, scarves and even jewellery. A new material with beige and ebony fabric has also been especially introduced, featuring a Mini GG pattern inspired by a House fabric from the ‘80s, topped with Mickey Mouse motifs in varying scale.
Other than the Year of the Mouse collection, there’s also a special lineup of Chinese New Year accessories, now available exclusively on Gucci.com.
2.Burberry
Demonstrated by brand ambassador Zhou Dongyu and models He Cong and Liang Jiyuan, Burberry has revealed its Chinese New Year 2020 collection featuring refined tailoring and sports-influenced pieces in vivid red, as well as new iterations of Burberry’s iconic Union sneaker and Lola bag.
A limited-edition Thomas Burberry Monogram motif has also been specially designed for the collection, highlighted by an original illustration of the Chinese zodiac that honours and celebrates the beginning of the Year of the Rat.

5.Dior
Dior has also launched a specially curated limited-edition capsule for the Lunar New Year, but instead of using visuals of mouses like many of its designer peers, the brand has opted for the beautiful and elegant phoenix, giving a poetic, timeless and confident flair.

As for the men’s creations, you’ll find a cartoonish mouse motif adorning a mini bag, a wallet and a card holder that express a joyful and festive spirit in this special time of year.
