The best street style from the 2020 Portsea Polo

For its 20th year, Victoria’s foremost polo event—the Portsea Polo—saw attendees flock to the event’s picturesque Mornington Peninsula-perched location on January 11 in all their field side finery.

With many an attendee shying away from the crisp white wardrobe that’s become synonymous with the event, this year saw an injection of earth tones, with many swapping out the optic hue for bright florals, pastel tones and earthy shades. Of course, not all in attendance could resist an all-white ensemble in its fresh linen and cotton iterations.

The polo also saw the re-adoption of trends which dominated 2019’s spring racing season, including left-of-field headwear, designer-branded barrettes and luxury accessories.

As always, polo goers enjoyed many traditional event elements, from the divot stomps, to the horse parade prior to a match, as well as revised happenings, including attendees being closer to the action thanks to a reduced field size, and a fast-paced ’20-20 inspired tournament which saw six teams taking place with three players swinging their mallets and galloping across the field.

However eye-catching the fashion field side was, equally worthy of a mention was the fundraising pledge made ahead of the day, which promised $100 per goal scored throughout the day’s tournament, and resulted in $36,500 raised and donated to Victoria’s Country Fire Authority.

Notably attending the polo for the first time was The Bold Type star, Aisha Dee, who spoke to Vogue in the lead-up and spilled all, from what’s in store for season four, to her sartorial embrace of femininity for the event itself.

The Australian actress was hosted as a special guest inside Forever New’s marquee, where she joined the honourable Julie Bishop and her partner, David Panton, ballerina Isobelle Dashwood, and model Amy Pejkovic among others, who each sipped refreshing cocktails and enjoyed a bespoke menu as the tournament took place just metres away.
