On December 12, Vogue Australia, along with an intimate group of Australia’s most esteemed designers gathered on picturesque Sydney Harbour to welcome editor-in-chief of British Vogue, Edward Enninful, to Australian shores.
Hosted aboard the 52-metre luxury superyacht, Mischief, Enninful and guests were treated to a sea-bound tour of Sydney’s most iconic sites.
Aside from the idyllic views, the majestic vessel proved the perfect setting not only for the visiting editor-in-chief, but also for our local fashion elite which included Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman of Camilla and Marc, Edwina Robinson and Adrian Norris of Aje, Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales of Romance Was Born, and Christopher Esber and Alice McCall of their eponymous labels.
Also joining Mr. Enninful in the celebrations was his partner and British Vogue’s digital creative director-at-large Alec Maxwell, along with acclaimed fashion critic Anders Christian Madsen and style director at British Vogue, Dena Giannini.
While aboard Mischief, our homegrown talent was given the unique opportunity to meet with the visiting editor-in-chief one-on-one, all the while taking in the beautiful sites that surrounded them throughout the afternoon’s voyage.
Also on board was special guest and social media sensation, Celeste Barber, who earlier this morning, hosted the largest ever Vogue-ing dance mob event at Icebergs Bondi with the help of the Sydney-based dance troupe, House of Slé.
However, a carefully coordinated dance number wasn’t the only thing on Barber’s to-do list for the day, having also stepped into the role of acting editor-in-chief for Vogue Australia for the day and covering off her duties by broadcasting 60th anniversary-associated events to her 6.3 million-strong following, which too boasts a long list of international A-list fans.
As the afternoon continued, guests sipped on French champagne from Moët & Chandon and enjoyed a catered lunch curated by acclaimed chef, Grant King, the whole event proving the perfect start to summer for the select designers in attendance, and a show-stopping welcome to Australia for Mr. Enninful.
On December 13, British Vogue’s distinguished editor-in-chief, Edward Enninful joined Vogue Australia, as well as a comprehensive rollcall of A-listers for a glamorous evening of fun, fashion and entertainment.
Hosting a private supper to celebrate 60 years of Vogue Australia, our own editor-in-chief, Edwina McCann partnered with Destination NSW to open the doors of Justin Hemmes’s waterfront residence, encouraging all in attendance to arrive in black-tie and barefoot. Arriving in glamorous fair, guests were soon greeted with breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour and an atmospheric soundtrack courtesy of DJ Flex Mami on the decks, the iconic locale an ode to the magazine’s past and the space it occupies in Australia’s history.
With the likes of Gemma Ward, Georgia Fowler, and Victoria Lee, songstress Lorde, Gracie and Barry Otto, and Matt and Jack from The Inspired Unemployed, along with News Corp’s executive chairman, Michael Miller and Vogue Australia’s publisher, Nicholas Gray, in attendance, the event saw many a member of the Vogue family in attendance to toast the landmark occasion. And as notable figures from a number of industries filtered through the celebratory soiree—from business and politics, through to the sports sphere—the diversely-curated guest list aided in making the evening one that was not to be missed.
To kick-off supper, a special Welcome to Country was delivered by Yvonne Weldon, Chairperson of Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council.
As the supper continued, guests were given a complete sensory experience, as they sipped on Moët & Chandon champagne and nibbled on a delectable menu created by Sydney chef Danielle Alvarez, while NIDA graduates Grace Deacon and Olivia Rowlands did the incredible set production. In quintessential Vogue style, guests were treated to the ultimate party favours as they made their way from the garden into the grand living room—a portrait captured by critically-acclaimed photographer, Hugh Stewart.
The spectacular views and setting aside, it was an exquisite night of non-stop entertainment with performances from the likes of Thelma Plum and Electric Fields setting the mood. And to top it all off, Australian pop sensation, Kate Miller-Heidke, gave a special performance to close the evening.
The private supper, which was held in honour of Mr. Enninful’s whirlwind trip to Australia, took place shortly after the British editor’s arrival in Sydney. The evening was, in many ways, a showcase of all that is unique and diverse about Australia curated especially for the editor, who is visiting the country for the first time.
