Just in time to cure us of our Christmas blues, award season begins to brighten up our January with celebrity sightings, decadent gowns and, of course, the best beauty looks. In fact, red carpet season often lays the groundwork for the beauty trends that will dominate the year ahead, from show-stopping hairstyles to major makeup moments.
Last year was awash with blue, from Lady Gaga (and her epic pastel blue hair) to Lupita Nyong'o and her electric eyeshadow, as well as a throng of sleek middle partings, top knots and pillar box-red lips.
This year, however, we're forecasting for a slightly more subtle red carpet season, with beauty looks as wearable as they are covetable. Keep scrolling to see GLAMOUR's predictions for the beauty trends to look forward to this season...
BOB HAIR
As Jay Birmingham, celebrity hairdresser and owner of Jay Birmingham Hair, explains, Millie is bang on trend. "2020 is the major bob movement, long hair simply isn’t that interesting anymore," he said. "This undone, modern and messy chic bob rocked by Millie Bobby Brown has messy-chic ‘off duty model’ vibes to it. It’s flirty and edgy, yet still classic and I simply love her textured tresses."

TWENTIES THROWBACK
From Michelle Williams' finger waves to Jane Levy's pin curls, Twenties-inspired hair is the name of the game this year, marking a move towards more polished styles and away from the beloved bedhead trend that dominated the past decade.

MEN'S MAKEUP
Ansel Elgort's glitter eyeshadow at the Golden Globes served as proof that men's makeup is on the up, and is set to become mainstream in the next few years. We hope to see more men turning up for the trend throughout the ensuing award ceremonies.

PLENTY OF PINK
By far the most prolific beauty trend of the Golden Globes was the array of pink shades that graced the red carpet. From Sofia Carson's petal pink eyes to Isla Fisher's fuchsia lip, pink is fast becoming a 2020 favourite.

TWINKLE IN THE EYES
Glitter has been the star of the show when it comes to beauty trends for a good few years now. This year, we foresee sparkle being scaled back to focus on key accents, for a more impactful and precise look perfectly exemplified by Lucy Boynton and Joey King at the Golden Globes.
