Considering noughties style icon Paris Hilton—whose iconic past looks are still mimicked today—continues to hold the velour tracksuit in high regard, it should come as no shock that one purveyor of the aforementioned form of leisurewear is making a comeback decades later. Kimora Lee Simmons’s streetwear brand, Baby Phat, is making its mark on 2019 with an updated release of its cat logo-emblazoned signature velour sweatsuit, alongside new styles which include reflective joggers, matching windbreakers, colourblock sets, and true to the brand’s ‘90s and ‘00s fashion form, bedazzled logo tees and tank tops, all modelled by Simmons’s own daughters—Ming and Aoki Lee Simmons.
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of its iconic PS1 bag, Proenza Schouler has recreated its signature accessory in three different limited edition styles, each featuring archival artworks painted by American artist and filmmaker, Harmony Korine. Repurposing some of Korine’s most notable works—Blue Check Success, Nudity Clause Line, and Photo Spirit Looper, each of which were exhibited at New York City contemporary gallery, Gagosian Gallery, in the past—the latest collaborative project between the two creative entities will see a limited run of 400 bags released, with each piece embossed with its own special number.
Following its collaboration with swimwear brand Speedo, athleisure brand P.E Nation has partnered with premium lifestyle brand Kith to launch an exclusive six-piece sportswear collection. Joining forces to create the ultimate activewear capsule suited to whatever scenario the day throws at you, the collection will include a sports bra, leggings, a tank top, a sweatshirt, a pair of track pants, and a jacket. Incorporating the on-trend colorways of pearl blue, neon yellow, rugby tan—with a little animal print and metallic accents thrown in—P.E Nation’s penchant for classic sporty colour block is blended seamlessly with Kith’s knack for streetwear. The P.E Nation x Kith capsule collection will be available to purchase from January 14 at PE-Nation.com, Kith.com, as well as in-store at select Kith boutiques.
Australian label Maurie and Eve has just released its first eco-conscious collection, titled Nature in Balance. Designed with sustainability at its forefront, the brand has adopted the practices of organic cotton farming and more eco-friendly cotton production—each in compliance with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)—revised pattern design and cutting techniques to ensure minimal waste, and production transparency by making each of its pieces’s origins traceable, topping the 360-degree approach of the collection off with a campaign shot at Soneva Fushi, a world-leading result in the scope of sustainable tourism.
Australian hat crafter, Will & Bear, has announced the release of its first-ever straw hat collection created entirely of salvaged seaweed. Collected from coastlines throughout south-east Asia, the seaweed is then dried and woven into the brand’s straw hats in an effort to upkeep sustainable production, as well as upping awareness around the natural ability of seaweed to absorb carbon. In increasing knowledge of the plant’s unique eco-saving abilities—seaweed forests are said to absorb over 20 times more CO2 from the atmosphere than land-based forests—Will & Bear are hoping that other brands will follow suit in leaving the forests alone and looking to salvaged seaweed as a suitable alternative, this latest release in line with its plight to become B Corp certified in 2020.
