7 Trends That Will Dominate The Australian Summer

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia has come to an end, and in its wake we are left with a new array of summer-friendly fashion trends. Sadly, we'll have to make it through winter first but—being the eternal optimists that we are—we're already looking to the end of the year, and what we'll be wearing once the sun re-emerges.

At Australian Fashion Week we saw on trends we're already fawning over, modernised with a new twist. Tie-dye was apparent at bassike's surprisingly colour-heavy show, but made fresh in bold green hues, found on casual singlets and drawstring baggy trousers. Fashion's Cali-Cool vibe was spotted on silk shirts at Bec + Bridge, worn with beige shorts and Tevas-style sandals (a fixture all week).

Suiting is the trend that keeps giving, seen at Anna Quan, Tigerlily and Christopher Esber, where the humble black tuxedo got a feminine upgrade courtesy of side panel cut-outs and embellished crystal rope detailing. Here, we round-up the seven trends you'll be wearing to death this summer.

Simple suiting: Suiting really is the trend that won't die, with loose-fitting suits in breathable linens and summer-y hues of beige and brown appearing en masse.

Silky whites: We loved the fluid eveningwear made of bright white silk. Keep the look grounded by eschewing heels for chunky sandals.

Shades of rust: Structured one-pieces in hues of orange and rust were the swimwear of choice this season. The best part? They work as apparel off the beach, worn with denim shorts or tailored pants.

Graphic prints: An injection of joy came courtesy of playful prints this season, be it California Dreaming-vibes at Bec + Bridge, an abundance of tie-dye at Resort, or avant garde squiggles at Lee Mathews.

Cut out for it: Eveningwear was nonchalant and sexy—all black, with risque cut-outs for added va-va-voom factor.
